What Is a Data Compromise?

A data compromise is an organized theft of ATM, debit card, or credit card information. These events are usually caused by:

  • Merchant data breaches or third-party processor hacks
  • Computer theft or stolen storage devices
  • Company insiders misusing access

How We’re Notified

Firefighters First is alerted by trusted sources like Visa® or law enforcement. Due to confidentiality, we typically don’t receive the merchant’s name or specific breach details.

What to Expect If Your Data Is Affected

We know this can feel unsettling, but a card reissue doesn't always mean fraud occurred. Here's what you should know:

  • We may proactively close and replace your card as a precaution
  • It does not mean fraud has occurred or will occur
  • It does not mean you’re a victim of identity theft
