How we protect you.
When you use the FireFirstCU mobile app, your account is protected by multiple layers of security, including advanced encryption to prevent unauthorized access to your personal and financial data, fraud detection systems that monitor activity around the clock, and secure messaging tools within the app.
Protect your device.
Treat your phone or tablet with the same care you would give a computer. Use a strong passcode and enable automatic screen locking so the device cannot be accessed when not in use. Keep your device’s operating system and apps up to date—manufacturers regularly release security patches that address newly discovered vulnerabilities.
Download apps safely.
Only download the FireFirstCU mobile app from the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Be cautious of unofficial apps that claim to be from Firefighters First. Signs of a fake app include a developer name that is not Firefighters First, promotion on a third-party website, or a charge to download the app. Firefighters First does not charge for mobile app downloads.
Before downloading any third-party app, review its privacy policy and understand what data it can access on your device.
Use a digital wallet.
A digital wallet lets you make purchases using a virtual card number tied to your device rather than your physical card number. If your phone is lost or stolen, that virtual number cannot be accessed. You retain all the rewards, benefits, and protections of your physical card. Learn more on the Credit and Debit Card Security page.
Browse and bank securely.
When banking or shopping on your mobile device, confirm that the site address begins with https:// before entering any personal or financial information. Avoid accessing your accounts on public Wi-Fi networks without a VPN.
Watch for mobile fraud.
SMShing (Text Message Scams)
Fraudsters send text messages designed to trick you into sharing personal or financial information or clicking links that install malware. Firefighters First will never ask you to provide account information by text. For a full overview of how smishing works, read How to Protect Against Smishing Attacks.
Fraudulent Calls and Voicemails
Unsolicited calls or voicemails requesting account information or immediate action are almost always a scam. Do not respond or call back numbers provided in suspicious messages.
If Your Device Is Lost or Stolen
Take these steps in advance so you are prepared if your device is ever lost or stolen:
- Use a strong passcode and enable automatic screen locking
- Enable remote wipe so you can delete your data from a lost device
- Keep a record of your device’s make, model, and serial number
- Back up your device data regularly and store the backup in a secure location
If your device is lost or stolen and you are concerned about your accounts, contact us immediately.
Protect Against Malware
Viruses and malware can infect mobile devices just as they can computers. If your device supports antivirus software, consider installing it. Back up your device regularly so you can restore your data if you need to wipe it clean to remove a threat.
