Here is how the money market account works.
Earn more as your balance grows, with no account changes required. Here is what to expect once you are open.
Your rate grows with your balance.
A money market account earns at higher, tiered dividend rates. As your balance increases, your rate increases automatically. No need to move money or open a new account to benefit from a higher tier.
Dividends are compounded and credited monthly.
Dividends are compounded and credited monthly. Rates are variable and move with the market, but your rate will never fall below the regular savings account dividend rate as long as you maintain the $2,500 minimum balance.
Access your funds your way.
Access your balance through Online Banking, the FireFirstCU mobile app or by check. Deposits are unlimited and can be set up through direct deposit or payroll deduction.
One thing to know about debit cards.
A debit card2 linked to a money market account must first be connected to a Firefighters First checking account before it can be used for purchases or ATM access.
Everything you need to know about money markets.
What is a Money Market account?
A money market account is a variable-rate savings account that earns dividends at rates higher than a standard savings account. Rates are tiered, meaning your rate increases as your balance grows. Funds remain accessible at any time through Online Banking, the Mobile App or by check.
How is a Money Market account different from a Regular Savings account?
A money market account earns higher dividends, particularly at larger balances, and may offer check-writing access. It requires a $2,500 minimum balance, while a regular savings account has no minimum balance requirement.
How is a Money Market account different from a Share Certificate?
A share certificate locks your funds for a fixed term at a fixed rate, typically earning a higher rate in exchange for that commitment. A money market account has no fixed term, so your funds remain accessible at any time. It is better suited for members who want competitive earnings without locking money away.
What is the minimum balance?
The minimum balance to open and maintain a money market account is $2,500. If your balance falls below $2,500, your rate may no longer be guaranteed above the regular savings account rate.
Are my funds safe?
Yes. Money market account deposits at Firefighters First Credit Union are federally insured by the NCUA up to $250,000 per depositor.
How are dividends calculated and paid?
Dividends are compounded monthly and credited to your account monthly. Your rate is variable and based on your account balance tier.
Can I set up direct deposit or payroll deduction?
Yes. You can fund your money market account through direct deposit or payroll deduction, as well as through manual transfers via Online Banking or the Mobile App.
