Everything you need to know about IRA certificates.

What is the difference between an IRA Certificate and a regular IRA savings account?

A regular IRA savings account earns a variable rate that can change at any time. An IRA Certificate locks in a fixed guaranteed rate for a set term. In exchange for that guarantee you commit your funds for the duration of the term, and early withdrawal penalties apply in most cases.

Can I make additional deposits to my IRA Certificate during the term?

No. The maximum number of deposits allowed is one per tax year, made at the time of opening.

What happens when my IRA Certificate matures?

Unless you instruct us otherwise, Traditional and Roth IRA Certificates automatically renew for the same term at the then-current rate. The Freedom IRA Certificate does not automatically renew. Upon maturity, Freedom IRA Certificate funds are transferred to a 6-month IRA Share Certificate unless you instruct us to move them to another IRA account or an investment account.

What is the Freedom IRA Certificate and who should use it?

The Freedom IRA Certificate is a 4-month temporary holding account for members rolling over funds from a qualified retirement plan such as a 401(k) or 457(b) while working with a Financial Advisor. It accepts new money only and does not automatically renew.

What is the Money Market IRA?

The Money Market IRA is a liquid IRA account that earns a higher variable rate than a standard IRA savings account. Unlike a fixed-term certificate, funds remain accessible at any time. It is well suited for members who want the tax advantages of an IRA with the flexibility to access their funds without a penalty.

Fees may reduce earnings. Dividends will be compounded monthly and will be credited monthly. APY is accurate as of the last dividend declaration date. Penalty for early withdrawal may apply. Traditional/Roth IRA Certificates: Terms of 6 months, 1 year, 18 months, 3 years and 5 years. Minimum balance tiers of $1,000, $50,000 and $100,000. Maximum of one deposit per tax year. If a Traditional IRA Certificate Account requires mandatory distribution, seventy and one-half (70½) years of age or greater, and the balance falls below the minimum required to avoid closure, the account will be closed without penalty and reopened at the lower balance tier and prevailing rate. If the balance falls below the lowest balance tier, the account will be closed without penalty and remaining funds will be credited to your Traditional IRA Share Account.

Freedom IRA Certificate: 4-month term. No minimum balance. New money only. Will not automatically renew. Upon maturity, funds not moved to a Firehouse Financial investment account will be transferred to a 6-month IRA Share Certificate unless otherwise instructed.
